As part of the Music for Life programme, Masterclasses are regularly held with a soloist prior to their performance with the Orchestra. This gives the opportunity for young aspiring musicians to be tutored and given expert advice from soloists.
Most recently, Pianist Noriko Ogawa took part in a masterclass with three musicians from Milton Keynes Music Service; Elton Lin, Hannah Slavin and Joseph Hide. The students were tutored by Noriko, then gave a performance in the Foyer of Milton Keynes Theatre prior to the evenings concert.
Other Masterclasses have included clarinetist Emma Johnson. On this occasion over one hundred music students, parents and friends enjoyed the masterclass. Emma visited Shenley Brook End School in advance of her performance at the 'Past and Present' concert. Four talented and brave clarinetists from the Music Service stepped forward to take part in the masterclass with Emma, accompanied by Craig Greene on the Piano. This two and a half hour musical experience finished with a charming performance of 'Snowflakes' by the senior clarinet choir of MK Music Service.
