Full House for Craig Ogden Concert
Milton Keynes City Orchestra (MKCO) played to their second full house this season at The Venue last Friday with Classic FM star Craig Ogden. Their 2017 season, in celebration of MK 50, features a great range of international stars, attracted to MK by exceptional MKCO performances under the baton of Damian Iorio, their world-class Music Director.
Classical Guitarist Craig Ogden had the audience mesmerised with his moving rendition of the ever popular Concierto de Aranjuez by Rodrigo, he also pleased the enthusiastic audience by playing an acoustic set as an encore.
The concert closed with the Haydn Clock Symphony No. 101, featured on the GCSE curriculum. This piece and the opportunity to see and hear Craig attracted a party of forty students from Ousedale Schools in Olney and Newport Pagnell to swell the audience. Both schools benefitted from a Haydn Clock composition class, designed by the MKCO musicians and delivered free of charge a few days before the concert.
Chairman of MKCO Marian Livingstone said,” The sheer quality of performance from one the top classical guitarists in the world was breath-taking on Friday. Attracting a younger audience and enhancing music education is key to our progress and this concert proved that MKCO plays a pivotal role in the cultural needs of MK.”
MKCO will perform next at MK Theatre on Sunday 12th March 3.00pm supported once again by accountants Hillier Hopkins. The programme will feature another Classic FM star, Pianist, Ji Liu performing the sensational Gershwin Rhapsody in Blue. The MK Youth Orchestra will join the MKCO players for Sibelius Karelia Suite and the programme will close with the dramatic Dvorak Symphony “From the New World”
